October 2022: Student of the Month: Elizabeth T.

When did you start your pole journey/journey with classes at Pole Pressure?

I took one class with Pole Pressure in March 2020 before COVID hit and then resumed classes in June 2021 after I was vaccinated.

Why did you decide to try pole dancing/classes at Pole Pressure?

Over the years, I’ve tried running, yoga, Pilates, etc., but never found something I actually wanted to do consistently. I liked that Pole Pressure’s website was very intentional about being welcoming and not intimidating for beginners—e.g., it answered basic questions like what to wear, what to bring, “help!? I have no upper body strength!” (this one was key for me), etc. I also really liked that Pole Pressure’s website specifically mentions that it embraces gender and size diversity, and that gender, size, and racial diversity are all reflected in both the instructors and students.

What do you love most about pole dancing/classes at Pole Pressure?

The instructors are extremely supportive of us! They always structure their routines with modified options so that students of all skill levels can feel included, even if they can’t do some of the moves (it’s me, I’m “students”). I also really like open practices—I can practice the things I’ve learn in classes at my own pace and often meet other students who very kindly and generously share pointers with me. When omicron hit in December 2021, I decided not to go into the studio for a while, so my partner bought me a home pole, and I’ve really appreciated being able to take virtual classes.

Why do you love Pole Pressure?

(see above)

What are some of your goals for this year?

My goal for 2022 is to be able to invert from the air!!

What motivates you to train?

I really love the feeling of creating momentum, learning a new move or hold a new position, and discovering that I am strong enough to do something new. I love the feeling of being proud to be in my body.
