December 2022: Student of the Month - Amaris

When did you start your pole journey with classes at Pole Pressure?

I started my journey in January 2022.

Why did you decide to try pole dancing at Pole Pressure?

I've wanted for some time to do pole dance, but I always told myself I didn't have enough muscle for it. I would train in the gym and still not feel adequate enough to "start" pole dancing. When the new year rolled around, I finally said screw it, what better time than "new years resolution" time than to just force myself to start. So I took my first class with Julia on January 5, 2022. :)

What do you love most about pole dancing at Pole Pressure?

Realizing I'm making progress is the most gratifying/addicting feeling, and it keeps me coming back even when I feel discouraged. Sometimes it feels like it takes forever to make progress, but eventually, you look in the mirror and see yourself doing something you definitely couldn't do 2-3 months ago. Best feeling.

Why do you love Pole Pressure?

It's a welcome space for everyone! Every body type, gender, and color is represented here. I can wear whatever I want too without the social judgment I would get outside.

What are some of your goals for this year?

I'd say my goals for 2023 are to invert aerially by the end of the year and to feel confident in a decent range of tricks and spins.

What motivates you to train?

I watch FKA twigs's "cellophane" video, or SZA in "Good Days" (two beautiful pole dancing music videos). I also just watch competition performances or talented dancers and visualize myself being able to do the things they can do someday.
